FC Dynamo Kyiv played the final Champions League group stage game of the season in Lisbon.
This match was about the reputation of the club, national rankings, UEFA bonuses and, of course, about loyal fans.
Home side had a chance to take the lead in the first minute. Yaremchuk obtained the ball, eluded Syrota and attempted on goal, but Bushchan was ready for that. Rafa Silva was the first to follow up, but sent the ball over the bar.
In a few minutes Dynamo created incredible opportunity to step in front. Buialskyi rushed into the penalty area, defenders and goalkeeper aimed to stop him, he passed to Tsyhankov, but Viktor missed the open goal.
Generally Lucescu’s men looked very decently opposing motivated home side, but eventually Benfica succeeded. In the 16th minute, Portuguese team attacked through the left side, Joao Mario put a low cross into the box and Yaremchuk made it 1:0.
Benfica kept applying pressure and increased the lead six minutes later. Verbic passed inaccurately, Gilberto obtained the ball and hit the target from close range – 2:0.
After the break fans witnessed totally different game. Benfica didn’t rush forward while Dynamo finally got more courageous. In the fifth minute of the second half Buialskyi unleashed the White-Blues’ first shot on goal after low cross from Verbic.
Mykolenko attempted pretty dangerously from inside the penalty area, but missed. Several chances occurred after crosses by Tymchyk from the right side.
Tymchyk himself had a great opportunity in the 75th minute as he tried with a header, but Vlachodimos parried the strike.
Then Greek goalkeeper saved his team as the ball could make it into the net after the shot by Buialskyi and rebound.
Dynamo attacked throughout the second half and Kyivans definitely shouldn’t be ashamed for this part of the game.
Anyway, unfortunately the White-Blues finish 2021/2022 euro cups season with only one point and one goal scored.
