Europa League. Dynamo – Rennais. Preview

On Thursday, October 13, FC Dynamo Kyiv will play the Europa League group stage matchday 4 home game against Stade Rennais FC.

The match will take place at the Stadion Cracovii im. Józefa Piłsudskiego in Krakow. Kick-off – 19:45 Kyiv time (18:45 local time).

2021/2022 SEASON

- The Ukrainian Premier League season was ceased because of war. Dynamo finished second, two points behind FC Shakhtar Donetsk (W-14, D-3, L-1, goal difference – 47:9).

In the Ukrainian Cup round of 16 Dynamo defeated FC Mariupol and were supposed to face FC Oleksandria in the quarterfinal, but the national Cup wasn’t finished either.

- Rennais finished 4th in the Ligue 1 last season which let them qualify for euro cups for the fifth time in a row. This was one of the best results in club history: only in 2019/20 season they were third in the league table. They won 20 games out of 38, lost 12 and played in a draw 6 times (goal difference – 82:40).

As for the national cup, Rennais tumbled out in the round of 32 as they faced Nancy (1:1, 3:4 on penalties).

In the UEFA Europa Conference League, Rennais won the group, but lost against Leicester City in the round of 16 (0:2, 2:1).

2022/2023 SEASON START

- Dynamo started the new season with the Champions League qualifiers. They outplayed Fenerbahce in the second round (0:0, 2:1) and Sturm in the third (1:0, 2:1) after which lost against Benfica in play-offs (0:2, 3:0). As for the Europa League group stage, Kyivans have already lost against Fenerbahce (1:2), AEK Larnaca (0:1) and Rennais away (1:2).

In the Ukrainian Premier League, Mircea Lucescu’s men suffered two defeats in a row – against Dnipro (0:3) and Zoria (2:3) – after which beat FC Lviv (1:0), FC Mynai (1:0) and FC Rukh Lviv (3:0). They’re 8th in the table with 9 points.

- Rennais are currently 6th in the Ligue 1 table. They have 18 points after 10 matchdays (W-5, D-3, L-2, goal difference – 20:9).

In the Europa League group stage they’ve already defeated AEK (2:1), played in a draw against Fenerbahce (2:2) and succeeded against Dynamo at home ground (2:1).
