- It was a tough game. Yesterday I mentioned we oppose a good team with experienced mature players, who used to feature in the Bundesliga, English Premier League, La Liga etc. But we did a good job and deserved this win.
I’d like to thank our fans. Although we played on a neutral ground we felt the support of both locals and Ukrainians. You helped us a lot. Now I want to invite everyone to the game against Besiktas.
- What were you feeling during the penalty shootout?
- It’s been a while since I had a penalty shootout. Probably last time it was when I opposed Dynamo with Shakhtar. Emotions are really positive. I’ve got significant experience, so it’s hardly possible to surprise me with anything.
- What do you expect of the game against Besiktas – the team you used to coach?
- I had a good successful period of time in Besiktas. It will be nice to face them on the field in a way. I hope to see a lot of fans at the stadium. And I hope every supporter went home a little positive due to our victory today. See you next Thursday. I’m sure fans also feel they’re part of this win.
- PAOK with your son Razvan in charge succeeded against Hajduk today, so you probably have extra reason for joy?
- This situation was tough for my wife Nelli as she had to follow two games, but now she’s really happy. Razvan and I want to reach the group stage and play in the same group, but I guess Nelli doesn’t (smiling).
Our next opponent is really tough. We could get a simpler one, but it is what it is. We need to get ready.
- What do you think of your players’ emotions and gestures after the final whistle?
- Did you see the banner Greek fans demonstrated in the first game? It was aimed against Ukraine. I couldn’t stop our players. I don’t support that, but you need to understand them. I hope that won’t happen in future. But the reaction of our players is the result of Aris fans’ behavior.
