In the final sixth round of the UEFA Conference League league phase Dynamo Kyiv hosted Armenian side Noah in the Polish city of Lublin.
Unfortunately Dynamo had already lost their chances of progressing to the next round after the previous matchday meaning they could not finish higher than 25th place in the final league table. Noah meanwhile were still fighting to secure a spot in the top 24.
The match began with an early setback for the Kyiv side. In the 6th minute Oleksandr Tymchyk suffered a serious injury that forced him to leave the pitch and he was replaced by Oleksandr Karavaiev two minutes later.
Just moments before that substitution Ruslan Neshcheret made his first save of the match denying Hélder Ferreira’s close-range effort following a low cross from the right flank. The Dynamo goalkeeper was called into action again in the 17th minute when Marin Jakoliš collected a long ball from his goalkeeper, broke through to the byline and fired in a dangerous cross from a tight angle.
Dynamo controlled possession and attacked more frequently although clear-cut chances were initially hard to come by. In the 10th minute Nazar Voloshyn’s final pass was intercepted by the Noah defense and soon after Matvii Ponomarenko was denied access to the ball inside the box. In the 22nd minute Mykola Shaparenko found space on the edge of the penalty area but his shot missed the target.
Dynamo eventually found the breakthrough in the 27th minute. Oleksandr Pikhalonok switched play to the right flank where Voloshyn delivered a first-time cross toward the far post. The goalkeeper attempted to intercept the ball but only managed a slight touch allowing Vladyslav Kabaiev to finish with a diving first-time effort from close range – 1:0.
The Kyiv side confidently controlled the remainder of the first half, continuing to dominate possession and apply pressure. Early in the second half Dynamo doubled their advantage. In the 50th minute, following a cross from Pikhalonok, Vladyslav Dubinchak headed the ball across goal to Matvii Ponomarenko who won the aerial duel and directed the ball into the net, scoring his first-ever goal for Dynamo’s senior team in European competition.
For a brief spell visitors attempted to increase their attacking intensity but failed to create any serious danger. Dynamo on the other hand came close to scoring a third goal in the 60th minute when Karavaiev fired at goal from close range after a cross from the left, only for Ognjen Chancharevich to make a fine save.
In the 64th minute Dynamo head coach Ihor Kostiuk introduced Bohdan Redushko who made his senior European debut after featuring for Dynamo U19 in this season’s UEFA Youth League.
Dynamo had several opportunities to extend their lead further but the scoreline remained unchanged. The match ended in a 2:0 victory for the Kyiv side – their first European win under Ihor Kostiuk.
