In their second match of the UEFA Conference League group stage Dynamo Kyiv faced Turkish side Samsunspor away from home.
The two teams entered the game with opposite results from the opening round: Dynamo had lost their nominal home match in Lublin to England’s Crystal Palace (0:2) while Samsunspor had earned a narrow away victory over Poland’s Legia Warsaw (1:0).
The match began in the worst possible way for Dynamo. Just two minutes after kickoff Koulibaly dispossessed Thiare deep in Dynamo’s half, triggering a swift counterattack. Muandilmadji floated a delicate cross from the flank which Musaba met from close range to make it 1:0 for the hosts.
The early goal did not cool Samsunspor’s attacking enthusiasm – the Turkish side kept pressing high and threatening Dynamo’s goal. Gradually, though, Oleksandr Shovkovskyi’s team managed to push the play away from their penalty area and began to look for chances of their own.
Dynamo’s Vivcharenko and Ogundana both tried long-range shots that missed the target but the best opportunity fell to Karavaiev who somehow failed to hit an empty net at the far post after a perfect cross from Ogundana – a miss that will surely haunt him.
The missed chance quickly proved costly. On the 34th minute Yüksel struck from outside the box, the ball deflected off Musaba and conveniently fell to Muandilmadji who volleyed past Neshcheret from close range – 2:0.
