Maksym Korobov: «It’s not good that we’ve already dropped so many points»

Defender of Dynamo Kyiv U19 Maksym Korobov shared his impressions after the away match of the U19 National League against Zorya Luhansk which ended in a goalless 0:0 draw:

- To be honest, the feelings after the match aren’t very good. The draw upset us because we’ve dropped points again and that doesn’t bring any positivity. What went wrong? It’s hard to say exactly. Probably a lack of focus – there were many technical mistakes in certain moments: someone didn’t quite make the run, someone didn’t put in enough effort. The game is made up of such small details. The coach, of course, is also unhappy. It’s only the ninth round and we’ve already lost so many points – that’s not good.

- Dynamo had plenty of chances in both halves. Was it poor finishing or just bad luck?

- Finishing definitely let us down but if you don’t have 100% focus and desire the ball just won’t go into the net. To score goals you need to be fully switched on. Even into an empty net you might miss if there’s not total commitment.

- You personally had a few good chances – a shot that hit the crossbar and some promising free kicks. Were you disappointed not to score?

- Of course I was upset but for me the team’s victory comes first. Even if someone else had scored I’d be happy for the team. I didn’t score – so be it the main thing is that someone does. Unfortunately today no one managed to.

- Are you the team’s main set-piece taker? You often take free kicks…

- I practice long-range shots a bit – I try to hit the target, to score myself or force the goalkeeper to parry the ball so that a teammate can finish the rebound. If I have the opportunity I try to take them.

- Did Zorya surprise you? How well did you analyze this opponent? Was there any underestimation or lack of focus?

- We analyzed the opponent very thoroughly. They’re a really good team. We had 18 points, they had 16 – we were close in the table. We prepared, we were motivated but maybe some players weren’t fully focused. Those are purely individual things.

- Your next game is in the UEFA Youth League against Swedish side Brommapojkarna. Have you already thought about that match? What do you expect?

- First of all I was focused on today’s match – it’s too early to think about the next one before the current game ends. The opponent is strong – the champions of their national league. We’ll aim to win and keep progressing further.
