Matvii Ponomarenko: “I had a feeling I would score”

FC Dynamo Kyiv forward Matvii Ponomarenko has commented upon the game against FC Veres Rivne (3:0) and his first UPL goal.

- Congratulations on your debut UPL goal. How exactly did you score?

- Thank you. Buialskyi found Voloshyn, Nazar noticed me and passed, I did a touch and scored.

- You also participated in Dynamo third goal.

- Veres rushed forward while we used a counterattack. Brazhko spotted me in the midfield and I sent Voloshyn one-on-one. Nazar made a right thing as he passed to Shepelev, who hit the open goal.

- How’re you feeling about your first official goal for Dynamo?

- That’s incredible. I really wanted to score for the first team. Frankly speaking, I had a feeling I would score today.

- Who helps you the most with your adaptation to the first team?

- I guess Buialskyi, Yarmolenko. They support me and explain what to do in this or that situation.

- Despite the fierce competition you get some game practice. Do you feel coach believes in you?

- I do. We talk a lot. As for this particular game, Supriaha got sick, so I took the field and did my job.

- Are you focused on the first team now? What about the youth team?

- Of course my goal is to play for the first team, but I’m always ready to help the youth team as well if they need me.

- Is it hard to switch from one level to another?

- It was hard at first both physically and mentally, but I’ve got used to it.

- What tasks did the coach set for you before you took the field?

- Today he didn’t say anything in particular.

- Vanat skips the next game. Are you ready to play in the starting lineup?

- I am if I have a chance.

- Did you expect such confident defending from Veres in the first half?

- We lost points in the previous game against Veres, so today we aimed only to win. They defended really well in the first half, but we scored and the game was practically closed. We got space and scored two more.
