FC Dynamo Kyiv forward Matvii Ponomarenko commented on the victory in Matchday 18 of the Ukrainian Premier League against FC Epitsentr Kamianets-Podilskyi (4:0). In this match the striker scored a brace.
– Today was a confident 4:0 victory for Dynamo. What are your first emotions after the game?
– Great emotions, we won.
– You scored twice and extended your scoring streak to five consecutive matches. Do you think about this streak when you go onto the field or are you focused only on achieving a result in the game?
– I think about the streak outside of games but when I go out to play I only think about the match - that I need to help the team, that’s all.
– Today the match started quite early - at 13:00. Is it harder to play earlier in the day or does it not make a difference?
– I think there’s no difference when you play. Of course waking up early isn’t great but the game was already at 13:00 so it was fine.
– The game wasn’t easy until the first goal was scored. What was missing at the start?
– I wouldn’t say the game wasn’t going well. It was going normally, we controlled it. Maybe we just didn’t score an early goal. I can’t say it was difficult because the opponent allowed us to play.
– Today the team kept another clean sheet in defense. Does that give you more confidence in attack?
– Of course. When the defense keeps a clean sheet we know that we just need to score. You could say we’ve had “reinforced concrete” at the back in these two matches. It’s very good that we’re keeping clean sheets, creating chances up front and scoring goals.
– On Tuesday Dynamo will play against Inhulets in the Ukrainian Cup quarterfinals. Will there be enough time to recover and prepare?
– Yes, of course. One day will be for rest and recovery and with the remaining time we’ll manage to prepare and play well, I think.
