Striker of Dynamo Kyiv Matvii Ponomarenko shared his impressions on Football Hub after the 2:1 victory over FC Obolon Kyiv in which he scored again and extended his scoring streak.
– Judging by the atmosphere and tension was today’s derby a success?
- Of course it was a success. It was successful because we won. In the first-round match we unfortunately failed to win and dropped points but we came into this derby understanding that we needed to repay that debt and take three points. We won so the mood is great and we move forward.
– Today you scored again. What’s going on? Admit it is it some kind of magic?
- It’s not magic, it’s constant work on myself. Thanks to the team, thanks to the trust of coaches and everyone around me. Maybe now fate is rewarding me on the pitch for everything I’ve been through.
– Obolon played with three central defenders who, like you, have strong physical attributes. Was it more difficult today compared to previous matches when there was probably more space in the penalty area?
- It’s always harder to play against teams like that because they sit deep, defend with five players at the back and there’s very little space in front. If there were more space it would definitely be easier. But it’s good that after conceding we didn’t give up, we understood what we needed to do, scored two goals and won the match.
– Because of your recent scoring form there are talks about a possible call-up to the Ukrainian national team. What do you think about that?
- I try to stay away from all that talks because my task is to go out for every game and help the team win. I have no other thoughts except about the match that is happening at that moment.
