Matviy Ponomarenko: «I hope this game has «unlocked» me, and there will be more to come»

The author of the winning goal in the first Conference League match against Qarabag shared his impressions immediately after the game at Arena Lublin.

– It’s good that we won. But there were a lot of mistakes, and we need to correct them. I think we need to play on the ball more. We’ll work on that. Overall, it’s good that we won today, and the team will prepare for the next game in a good mood. Today we earned a minimal handicap, and we’ll try to win in Baku as well and go through to the next round.

– In the episode with the goal did your goalscoring instinct help you?

– Yes, I saw that we won the ball back in the middle of the field and that there were the conditions for a quick counterattack. Justin Lonwijk fought for the ball, I saw that it was coming toward me, I felt that I could score, so I ran and poked it into the net. Thank God, the ball went in, so I ended my goalless run. I hope this game has “unlocked” me, and that there will be more to come, and I’ll start scoring in every game as well.

– Ihor Kostiuk came over to you after the final whistle… Did he support you or congratulate you?

– He congratulated me on the goal and thanked me for the game.
