Dynamo Kyiv midfielder Mykola Mykhailenko shared his thoughts with the club’s YouTube channel after the Matchday 27 game of the Ukrainian Premier League against LNZ Cherkasy (0:0).
– It was a difficult game. LNZ are a well-organized team so it was hard to break down their defense. Of course we would have liked to create more chances in attack today. Opponents also had a few good opportunities - we were warned that they could hurt us on counterattacks.
– Today team could not rely on Matviy Ponomarenko and Bohdan Redushko. Did their absence affect the way the team played in attack?
– Nothing really changed. I believe that the absence of few individual players should not change the team. Guys who played today are just as good. In general each of us has to prove in every match that we deserve to play.
– Did the situation in the league table and the result of the first-round match add extra importance to today’s game?
– Of course, those factors had an impact. We remembered the defeat in the first round so we really wanted to win today. We tried to achieve the maximum result but the opponent played in an organized way and defended very well.
– During preparations for today’s game did you pay much attention to the first-round meeting?
– Not really because a lot of time has passed. Opponent is not standing still - they are changing from game to game. When studying them, we focused more on their recent matches.
