Mykola Mykhailenko: «Of course you always want to get back to work»

Dynamo Kyiv midfielder Mykola Mykhailenko shared his impressions after the team’s first training session at the winter training camp in Turkey.

- Of course you always want to get back to work. Everyone missed training and missed each other. I hope everyone had a good rest. Now we’ll work with renewed energy.

- The first training session - how unexpected was it for you? You did the Yo-Yo test, played tennis-ball games and had various drills. Did you expect such a start?

- Yes, we were told in advance what today would involve. We prepared for it and basically knew what we would be doing.

- Last winter you also had the best result in the Yo-Yo test. So you’re maintaining a high level.

- It’s not really about “winning” the test. Everyone just runs as much as they can. For me the most important thing isn’t that I beat someone else - that doesn’t matter at all - but that this year I improved my own result. That means I’ve become better in some way. I’m satisfied that I’m better than I was before.

- Was there anyone who surprised you during the test? Maksym Korobov pushed you until the very end.

- I wouldn’t say he surprised me. He’s a strong guy as well. If he ran that much it’s a very good result which means he’s quite durable too. I wouldn’t say he surprised me - he’s just done a great job.

- What is the hardest thing for you during training camps in general?

- Training camps are about preparation and building a physical foundation. Of course there are moments that are harder than usual but I think that’s a normal process. There’s no way around it. You just have to treat it with understanding and go through the tough moments knowing that it will get easier later on.
