As part of the 10th round of the National U19 League, Dynamo Kyiv faced Lviv’s Karpaty. The match took place on one of the pitches at the Dynamo training base in Vita-Lytovska. Due to an air raid alert, the start of the match was delayed by almost an hour.
The teams spent the opening minutes without particularly forcing the pace. Dynamo actively used the flanks and pressed high up the pitch, but it took some time before either side managed to produce shots on goal. In the 9th minute, Karpaty forward Tsiupa nearly punished Royenko, who had come outside the penalty area, but after lifting the ball over the goalkeeper, he failed to direct it into the net. Shortly afterwards, Moskvitin broke through towards goal on the left inside channel, but Ohorodnik used his body well and prevented his opponent from shooting from close range.
At the other end, Buravtsov found himself in a shooting position following a throw-in on the left flank, but the Dynamo forward’s powerful effort from outside the penalty area was saved by the goalkeeper. Then, in the 23rd minute, the hosts took the lead. Fedorenko won the ball from an opponent in midfield, advanced a little and played an excellent pass to send Buravtsov through one-on-one with the goalkeeper. Yaroslav entered the penalty area and calmly slotted the ball into the corner, past the goalkeeper – 1:0.
In the 27th minute, Buravtsov came close to scoring his second goal. Zaikin entered the penalty area through the right inside channel and cut the ball back from the byline, but the forward narrowly missed the far corner. Yaroslav had another opportunity in the 36th minute when Andreiko, after a solo run, found him with an accurate pass inside the penalty area. However, despite being in a promising position, the forward was unable to get a shot away.
Both teams stepped up their efforts in the closing minutes of the first half. Dynamo’s top scorer, Fedorenko, had a chance to find the net after Romaniuk laid the ball off to him inside the penalty area, but his shot was blocked by a defender. At the other end, Antoniuk produced a good effort from outside the penalty area, but Royenko was well positioned and confidently gathered the ball.
After the break, the visitors showed that they had no intention of accepting defeat. In the 46th minute, Moskvitin sent Tsiupa through one-on-one with Royenko down the right inside channel, but our goalkeeper narrowed the angle and saved his team. A little later, following Tsiupa’s lay-off, Moskvitin tried his luck from outside the penalty area, but the ball deflected off a Dynamo defender’s leg and went out for a corner.
Vadym Milko’s men, of course, had no intention of sitting back near their own goal and simply protecting their narrow lead. In the 57th minute, Buravtsov unleashed an excellent shot from inside the penalty area, but the goalkeeper saved it. A little later, the keeper had to work hard to deal with a good effort from Romaniuk. In the 73rd minute, following Yermak’s cross from the right flank, Hrodzinsky challenged the goalkeeper, and the ball struck the crossbar off the keeper’s hand before bouncing back into play.
In the 78th minute, the Lviv side came close to drawing level once again. Foina played an excellent through ball to send Moskvitin through one-on-one with Royenko, but the forward’s shot lacked power, allowing Maksym to smother the ball. In the closing minutes, however, Dynamo came closer to scoring. First, Hanivu aimed for the corner with a shot from inside the penalty area, but the goalkeeper tipped it behind for a corner. Then, following Yermak’s delivery from the corner flag, the ball curled towards the crossbar, but the goalkeeper managed to tip it onto the frame of the goal.
Ultimately, the final whistle confirmed a narrow 1:0 victory for Dynamo. The White-Blues will play their next match away against Rivne’s Veres on October 21.
