National League U19. Karpaty – Dynamo – 1:1. Match report

On Friday, September 26, Dynamo’s U19 team played another National League match. In Round 7 Ihor Kostiuk’s men faced Karpaty Lviv away at the SKIF stadium.

The game was a meeting of direct rivals in the upper part of the standings. After six rounds Dynamo had collected 14 points and sat in second place while Karpaty had 12 points and were in third.

From the opening minutes Dynamo seized the initiative, controlling possession and launching several attacks on the home side’s goal. Andreiko produced the first shot though it was off target. The visitors continued to dominate the ball but the tempo slowed somewhat compared to the first minutes and there were few truly dangerous chances with most of the play concentrated in midfield.

One run down the wing by Chaban was stopped by Ishchenko, in another episode Abramchuk fired wide. However the visitors took advantage of their next opportunity: Osypenko carried the ball into the penalty area and struck into the far corner – 0:1. No further goals came before the break so Dynamo went into halftime with a narrow lead.

In the second half Dynamo still had more of the ball and occasionally put pressure on Karpaty’s defense though the hosts did not sit back and tried to respond as well. Abramchuk came close to equalizing but again lacked accuracy while at the other end Liusin’s powerful shot flew well over the bar. Overall both teams found it difficult to create clear chances.

Midway through the half Karpaty noticeably picked up their game. First Surkis had to react sharply to a tricky strike from Diedov. Soon after the hosts produced a clever free-kick routine: Kuzyk delivered a cross and Chernenko headed in with a bounce past Surkis – 1:1. Shortly afterward Yano attempted a shot from close range in a crowded penalty area but again Surkis was there to save Dynamo.

The visitors also had their chances. Ozymay’s free-kick was mishandled by goalkeeper Poterayko, the ball rebounded to Zakharchenko but somehow he failed to steer it into the net.

Deep into stoppage time Abramchuk broke through one-on-one with the keeper only to waste a golden chance to win it, much to the relief of the home fans. And still, that wasn’t the final chance: just before the whistle Foina was denied by Surkis.

In the end the match finished level at 1:1.

Dynamo U19’s next fixture in the National League will be at home: in Round 8 Ihor Kostiuk’s side will host Metalist 1925 Kharkiv.
