U19 National League. Kolos – Dynamo – 1:2. Match report

In the 9th round of the U19 National League, Dynamo Kyiv faced Kolos Kovalevka. Despite being an away fixture for our team, the match was played at Dynamo’s training base in Vita-Lytovska.

Before the round, the teams occupied opposite ends of the standings: Dynamo were second, while Kolos were at the bottom. Therefore, it was logical that Vadym Milko’s side took the initiative from the opening minutes. Chances also began to appear near the nominal hosts’ goal. In particular, after a free-kick delivery, Hubenko’s shot was blocked, while later Fedorenko attempted a shot following a cross from the right flank, but the goalkeeper saved it. Buravtsov also tried to shoot after a ball was played into the penalty area, but his attempt was blocked by a defender.

The deadlock was finally broken in the 19th minute. Dynamo launched an attack down the left flank, and after the cross, the defenders failed to clear the ball far enough. Fedorenko, who had served a suspension for a red card received in one of the previous rounds, fired a powerful shot from the edge of the penalty area into the net – 0:1.

The “white-and-blues” had no intention of stopping there. In the 21st minute, Buravtsov did brilliantly to carry the ball into the penalty area before passing to Andreiko on his left. The midfielder shot from inside the box, but the goalkeeper reacted and parried the powerful effort with his foot.

In the 31st minute, the ball found its way into Dynamo’s net. The referee awarded a free kick approximately 28 meters from goal, and Potienko produced an excellent strike into the corner – 1:1. Kolos’ very first shot of the match resulted in a goal...

Having equalized, the Kovalevka side began to play with greater confidence. Yavoremko, in particular, produced a good effort from outside the penalty area, but Roienko covered the ball in the corner. Nevertheless, Vadym Milko’s side managed to regain the lead before halftime. In the 44th minute, following a cross from the left flank, the ball reached the center of the penalty area, where Hubenko fired first time past the goalkeeper – 1:2.

After the break, the game continued at a low tempo, but with Dynamo holding the advantage. Buravtsov was active: first, the goalkeeper saved his shot, with none of his teammates able to get to the rebound, and later the defenders blocked the forward’s effort. At the same time, Dynamo defended reliably near their own goal, not allowing the opponents to approach from potentially dangerous positions. In the 71st minute, a good attack developed down the right flank, with Drahan advancing into the penalty area and rolling the ball back to Fedorenko, but Arsenii’s shot struck the post and bounced back into play.

As time went on, Kolos, who had nothing to lose, began to push forward more actively. The nominal hosts mainly tried their luck with long-range efforts, but none of them found the target. In another episode, Savko made an excellent run into the penalty area down the left flank, but Konovalov stayed with his opponent until the end and prevented him from getting a shot away from a tight angle.

Dynamo subsequently managed to “kill off” the game and see out the match for a 2:1 victory. Vadym Milko’s side will play their next match next Wednesday, October 14, when they host Karpaty Lviv.
