On Saturday, May 16, in the penultimate 29th round of the National League U19 Dynamo Kyiv played away against FC Poltava U19 from the city of Poltava. Before the match teams occupied opposite ends of the league table. After 28 rounds Dynamo had collected 70 points and sat in second place while Poltava had earned 8 points and remained at the bottom of the standings in 16th position. It should be recalled that the first-round meeting between Dynamo and Poltava this season ended in a convincing 4:0 victory for “White-Blues.”
It is worth noting that the start of the match was delayed by almost two hours because of air-raid alerts that sounded twice in Kremenchuk before kickoff. Once the game finally began Poltava enjoyed more possession in opening minutes as the home side attempted to catch visitors off guard but Dynamo coped well and gradually pushed play into the opposition half. Despite a number of inaccurate actions from both teams “White-Blues” looked more dangerous in attack. Rybak had a promising interception and shot on goal while Ozymai fired narrowly over the crossbar from long range. A goal seemed only a matter of time.
After around 30 minutes of play the match was interrupted once again due to another air-raid alert that lasted about two hours. When teams returned to the pitch Dynamo attacked with renewed energy. Fedorenko came close to scoring but his effort from the right side went wide, as did a similar attempt by Pashko. Ozymai and Martyniuk also created dangerous opportunities. Although almost all of the action during this period took place near Poltava’s goal, the first half ended goalless.
At the beginning of the second half Poltava’s goalkeeper dealt comfortably with Pashko’s shot. In response hosts nearly opened the scoring when Shevchenko’s powerful strike crashed against the crossbar. However the next Dynamo attack proved successful: Dykyi made a rapid run down the left flank and fired toward goal, with the ball taking a slight deflection before ending up in the net – 0:1.
Hosts became more active and tried to launch quick counterattacks and press for interceptions but they struggled to create real danger. Nevertheless Poltava eventually equalized: after a long ball from deep Kravchenko was left unmarked and calmly sent the ball into the net to make it 1:1.
Meanwhile “White-Blues” earned a dangerous free kick near Poltava’s penalty area but Pashko’s effort lacked power and was easily gathered by the goalkeeper.
Still the final word belonged to the Kyiv side. In the final minute of regular time Pashko met a cross from the left by Dykyi and tapped the ball home from close range to restore Dynamo’s lead – 1:2. Then, in stoppage time, Dekhtiar struck the crossbar with a header.
In the end “White-Blues” secured a 2:1 victory. With one round remaining in the National League U19 season Dynamo trail Shakhtar Donetsk by three points.
Dynamo’s youth team will play their next National League U19 match next week. In the final, 30th round, the team will host Kudrivka from the Chernihiv region. The match is scheduled for Friday, May 22.
