National league U19. Veres – Dynamo – 1:2. Match report

In Round 11 of the National U19 League, Dynamo Kyiv travelled to face Rivne side Veres. The match brought together the second-placed Dynamo and seventh-placed Veres, the silver and bronze medallists, respectively, of last season.

Due to an air raid alert, kick-off was delayed by half an hour. The first dangerous moment of the match came in the 11th minute. After Hanivu lost possession, the hosts launched a counterattack, and Vladyslav Saichyshyn approached the Dynamo goal at an angle and shot from close range, but Maksym Roienko produced an excellent save.

Dynamo, meanwhile, converted their first scoring opportunity. In the 15th minute, they launched a swift counterattack after winning the ball back in their own half. Team captain Andrian Bekerskyi played an excellent diagonal through ball to Yaroslav Buravtsov. Near the edge of the penalty area, he controlled the ball with his first touch and knocked it into his path, then sent it past the goalkeeper with his left foot with his second touch to make it 0:1.

In the 36th minute, Buravtsov scored his second goal of the match, netting his seventh goal of the season and drawing level with the team’s leading scorer, Arsenii Fedorenko. After receiving a cross from Myroslav Romaniuk on the right flank, Yaroslav controlled the ball in the air with his first touch and fired it into the net from the edge of the six-yard box with his second to make it 0:2.

Just a few minutes later, the score could have become emphatic when Ivan Andreiko put Fedorenko through on goal with no defender marking him. However, Fedorenko failed to beat the goalkeeper, who also reacted to Buravtsov’s follow-up attempt.

In the 42nd minute, the match was interrupted due to an air raid alert. The stoppage lasted more than an hour, and after play resumed, the closing minutes of the first half and the beginning of the second were entirely dominated by the White-Blues, who controlled possession for most of the time.

The intrigue unexpectedly returned in the 69th minute. The referee awarded a dangerous free kick to Veres, a decision that Dynamo’s coaches and players disagreed with. Nikita Tiutiunnyk stepped up to take the set piece and struck the ball directly from around 20 metres into the top corner to make it 1:2.

Dynamo did not allow their opponents to achieve anything more, ending Veres’ lengthy unbeaten run. The hosts tried to push forward, but in the 87th minute they were reduced to ten men when Yaroslav Povshenko received a straight red card for dangerous play.

With this victory, Vadym Milko’s team remain in second place in the National U19 League. Exactly one week later, on Wednesday, October 28, Dynamo U19 will begin their European campaign with a nominally home match against Scottish side Rangers.
