Oleh Blokhin quits as Ukraine head coach

The 1975 Ballon d’Or winner Oleh Blokhin stepped down as Ukraine head coach and thus will not prepare the national team for the 2010 World Cup qualifiers.

Blokhin took charge of the squad in 2003 to notch up most notable ever success in Ukraine's football history when he steered the Ukrainians into the World Cup quarter-final.

This fall, Ukraine failed to advance to UEFA Euro 2008 finals, finishing fourth in the group well behind Italy, France and Scotland.
