The guy from Podil!

Oleh Layevskyi was born in Podil residential area of Kyiv on January 13, 1922. Being a kid he played for FC Spartak Kyiv, but later he was spotted by Dynamo head coach Mykhailo Butusov.

But for the war…

Butusov decided to let the young goalkeeper Layevskyi show what he could on June 22, 1941 in the Soviet Top League fixture. unfortunately that match never took place because of war.

Oleh Layevskyi even participated in the assault of Reichstag on May 2, 1945. On the wall of Reichstag he wrote: “Oleh Layevskyi – Dynamo Kyiv”.

Always with football!

After the war Layevskyi lived in Poland and played football there. In 1947 he came back to Kyiv and featured for local CSCA.

Later he was a coach and referee. Layevskyi worked for Smena football school almost till he turned 90.

Even today Oleh Layevskyi is very interested in football and he becomes truly happy when FC Dynamo Kyiv – the team of his life – win.
