Pavlo Liusin: “You always want more to progress and become better with every game”

Dynamo U19 midfielder Pavlo Liusin, who scored 2 goals and provided 3 assists in the home match of the final, 30th, round of the National league U19 against Kudrivka, and finished third in the scoring charts, shared his impressions of the match, which ended in a 7:2 victory for the White-Blues:

— The match came together easily. When we stepped onto the pitch, we knew that we needed to win. Honestly, we are a little disappointed because of second place. We wanted to finish in first after such a difficult season. But we were a little unlucky — Shakhtar won their match. As for us, we simply played our football and won by such a big score. All the guys did a great job by showing good football and earning such a confident victory.

— Were you following how Shakhtar were playing during your match?

— Yes, we were following it, we were being informed. But what can you do — it’s nothing terrible. The good thing is that we won, and now we move forward. I think this season will only benefit us.

— What did the coach say in the dressing room? It was the last match of the season after all. What conclusions did he draw, and what are the plans now?

— The coach praised us and thanked us for a good season. He said that we worked hard and fought in every match. We are going on vacation with a little sadness and disappointment because we did not win the championship, but it’s nothing terrible.

— It must be especially disappointing to finish second, considering the team did not lose a single match?

— Yes, it’s a little disappointing. We beat Shakhtar twice, but there were too many draws. We need to change that, and next season everything will be much better.

— Speaking personally about you: you scored 15 goals this season, which is a very good number for a central midfielder. How do you assess your season?

— Probably successful. But you always want more, with every season, with every game, to progress and become better. You always want to demand more from yourself.

— How do you manage to score so many goals? Is it an instinct, practiced combinations, or your own initiative and improvisation?

— It’s not only my achievement, but also the team’s achievement. We play as a team, we think not only about ourselves, but also about our teammates. Yes, for a midfielder it’s a lot. Before every game, I simply step onto the pitch with the thought that I want to score and aim to get one or several goals in a match. And, of course, to provide assists for my teammates.

— I can’t help but ask about the progress of players who made it to the first team this season. Ponomarenko, Zakharchenko, Korobov, and Redushko are already training and playing there. Does their example motivate you?

— Yes, it does. They showed that it is possible to move from U19 to the first team and earn a place in the main squad, to come onto the pitch as a substitute. So far, I have only made the matchday squad once. I also want to train regularly with the first team. I think my time will come, and I will get chances more often. And I want even more to establish myself in the squad.

— What are your plans for the vacation?

— Right now, I need to get some rest and let my body recover, and then get back to work, train, and prepare for next season in order to become even stronger and even better.
