The club was founded in 1947. Steua won Liga I 24 times, Cupa României 13 times and Supercupa României five times.
As for European trophies, Romanian side won the Champions Cup in 1986 and defeated FC Dynamo Kyiv within the UEFA Super Cup in 1987 (1:0).
In 2005/06 season the Red-Blues reached the UEFA Cup semifinal. After that the team had hard times.
In 2012 Laurențiu Reghecampf took charge of Steaua. The same season they won Liga I and Supercupa României.
