The head coach of FC Dynamo Kyiv answered journalists’ questions at the post-match press conference following the away game against Polissya Zhytomyr in which the “White-Blues” won 2:1.
- Judging by the intensity and tension it seemed this was the most important and responsible match for Dynamo?
- Every match is important for us because we know we are behind leaders in the standings, and today we reduced that gap. Of course the game was principled because the teams were close in the table: Polissya were in third place and we were fourth with a four-point difference. Now we have reduced it to one point.
- You probably hoped that Matvii Ponomarenko would “explode” in the second part of the season but did you expect such productivity from him?
- I just said in the flash interview that everyone is surprised by this. But we are not surprised because we know Matvii well and understand his strengths. After moving from the U19 team to the senior squad he continues to score in every game, maintain the required level and create chances. However there’s no need for special compliments yet because he still has a lot to work on. There are still many mistakes in his game but for a striker the most important thing is to score goals.
- Did you know that today Dynamo scored their 1000th away goal in the national championship?
- I didn’t know that statistic but it’s nice to hear. We’ll add it to our achievements.
- Why did Karavaiev play at left-back today? What happened to Vivcharenko?
- He got sick and we couldn’t recover him in time for the match. Today Oleksandr was a real captain. I think he played well. Later we made a substitution and brought on Tymchyk on that flank because the opponent’s right side was very active where Hutsuliak was playing. We added freshness and didn’t allow the opponent to create many chances.
