The acting head coach of Dynamo answered questions from the media following the home match against Poltava.
– Unfortunately, today a tragic event occurred – our legendary player and distinguished club official Volodymyr Fedorovych Muntyan passed away… May his memory be eternal… We were born on the same day with a 29-year difference. Every year on my birthday he was always the first to call me and say: “Ihoryok, only great people are born on this day”. And I would reply: “Fedorovych, you are truly a great person”… Blessed memory to him. He will remain forever in our hearts.
– What did you tell your players at halftime after the team conceded the first goal?
– We emphasized that we needed to transition into attacks more quickly and avoid allowing the situations that the opponent was creating. There weren’t many of them but the concentration in defense had to be higher. Today we were not ready for that level of battle. And of course in attack we lacked freshness. I told players that everything had to be done faster. Unfortunately we conceded the second goal. We had many set pieces today but failed to create real chances from them to score. In the end we pulled one goal back but didn’t have enough time for more… Naturally the team is feeling down after the match. Everyone is upset. We hope we will come together and create an atmosphere that helps guys lift their heads. We have a bit of time to improve our physical condition before the next match so we will do everything necessary to be better in that regard.
– Today Bohdan Redushko made his debut for the first team. How do you evaluate his performance?
– He and Yatsyk combined effectively – Redushko delivered the cross that Yatsyk scored from. He understands my requirements and what needs to be done, and he did on the field what he knows how to do. I’m happy that he made his debut today. Despite his age he handled everything calmly and did his job well.
– Could you explain the absence of Shaparenko and Ogundana from the squad?
– Shola twisted his ankle in training yesterday. As for Shaparenko he is not yet one hundred percent ready. We spoke with him, consulted the doctors and decided that he should not take part in today’s match as he would not have been able to help the team.
