Dynamo's forward Matvii Ponomarenko has taken another important step in his career by making his debut for the Ukraine national team. This happened during the playoff semifinal match of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Sweden.
The striker entered the field in the 77th minute, replacing Heorhii Sudakov. He marked his debut in style by scoring a goal in the 90th minute, once again demonstrating his natural goal-scoring ability.
It’s worth noting that this was Ponomarenko’s first-ever call-up to the senior national team. Previously he recorded 21 goals and 1 assist in 31 matches for Ukraine’s youth and junior national teams.
