After Yuriy Semin was named new Dynamo coach, the coaching staff underwent some changes as well. Serhiy Krakovskyy is to replace his predecessor Viktor Chanov as goalkeeper coach.
Born in Mykolaiv in 1960, Krakovskyy embarked on playing professional football in Sudnobudivelnyk in his native town of Mykolaiv. After a one-year spell in the team, the 17-year-old was spotted by Dynamo Kyiv.
Three years in the Kyiv club, although with as few as one game in the first team squad, brought him a wealth of experience. In 1980, following Lobanovskyy’s advice, the goalkeeper moved to Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk to play for his new squad for 11 years and to become 1983 USSR champion, USSR bronze medalist in the two following years of 1984 and 1985 and USSR Cup holder in 1989. Called up to play for the USSR international in the 1986 World Cup, he, however, did not feature in a single game in the finals in Mexico.
Next, Krakovskyy moved on to play in Israel for Tzafririm Holon and Hapoel Hadera, with little success, and later joined Khimik Zhytomyr before abandoning his playing career.
Having guarded the post in 190 USSR matches, he was often able to parry 11-meter kicks.
His coaching debut came in 1995 in Metalurh Zaporizhya. Then followed tenures with Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk, Zirka Kirovohrad, Uralan (Russia) and Kuban (Russia). The longest stay was with Arsenal Kyiv in 2000-2005, where he took charge of several games as a caretaker manager.
