About triumph in Cup Winners’ Cup
Positive result is above all in football. We always tried to win in Kyiv and mostly used counterattacks away. Not everyone liked our play. Journalists said that we didn’t demonstrate spectacular football. The way to the final was difficult. That season PSV won the domestic league.
Our Republican Stadium was full. Troshkin obtained the ball, covered about 80 meters, put a low cross and Kolotov hit the target. Eventually we won 3:0.
In the final we defeated Ferencvarosi TC also by three goals to nil!
About triumph in UEFA Super Cup
Oleh Lobanovskyi went to Munich three-four days before the match. Onyshchenko and Muntian suffered injuries in the Soviet Top League fixture… Still we followed our “away” game model.
We won due to the super-goal scored by Blokhin. Frankly speaking we were lucky that day.
There’s no other Ukrainian team that achieved such success. FC Shakhtar Donetsk won the UEFA Cup, but they lost in the Super Cup.
