Stuart Dougal from Scotland is to take charge of the UEFA Champions League last group phase game between Sporting and Dynamo to take place Wed, Dec12 in Lisbon, Portugal. He will be assisted by his compatriots Francis Andrews and James Bee, with William Collum, also from Scotland, acting as fourth official and Anders Mattsson from Finland acting as UEFA Referee observer.
The Scottish referee oversaw his first international match back in 1997 in a friendly between Wales and Jamaica. His over-60-game international tally includes 30 UEFA club competitions. His other biggest encounters, as he himself considers, are Celtic vs. Rangers derby, the 2005 Intertoto Cup final and 2006 Scotland Cup final.
Once a professional footballer, he was forced to quit playing aged 21 after picking up a back injury. He then heeded his father’s friend advice to take up refereeing.
The 45-year-old is no stranger for Dynamo. It was him who refereed this year’s UEFA Champions League 3rd qualification round game between Dynamo and Sarajevo in Kyiv when Dynamo won 3-0 and advanced to the group stage.
