On Monday, February 9, Dynamo Kyiv played another friendly match as part of their training camp in Turkey where the team is preparing for the second half of the 2025/2026 season. The opponent was Iberia 1999 - the Georgian champions from the capital Tbilisi.
It’s worth noting that this was already the second friendly of the day for Dynamo. In the morning Ihor Kostiuk’s squad faced Kudrivka, a team making its debut in the Ukrainian Premier League this season, and won 2:1.
Unsurprisingly a completely different lineup played in this game as the coaching staff continues to experiment with different team formations during the training camp. The match was played in the standard format – two 45-minute halves.
At the start of the first half Dynamo had more possession but the first dangerous chance came from the Georgians. After Bartishvili’s low shot the ball went just wide of the post. Kyiv responded with a good but unsuccessful attempt from Brazhko. Overall Dynamo combined well but opponents often anticipated their moves and neutralized potential threats keeping the Ukrainian team away from goal.
Neither team had a clear advantage. At one point Surkis saved his team after Dzagania’s shot on target. Dynamo also had opportunities through Ponomarenko and a corner kick but Zokhuri won the aerial duel and cleared the ball. However these moments were hardly truly goal-scoring chances.
At the end of the first half Popov was sent off for a last-man foul. By mutual agreement Zacharchenko replaced the sent-off player so both teams continued with full squads. The most exciting part – goals – were saved for the second half.
Early in the second half Dzagania had a shot that missed the target. Near the opposite goal a corner kick could have created danger but Iberia 1999's goalkeeper easily collected the ball. Both teams frequently made mistakes, resulting in many interceptions and technical errors.
Finally Dynamo earned a dangerous free kick. Brazhko stepped up and, with individual skill, scored a beautiful direct goal – 1:0. Later Pikhalonok struck powerfully from outside the penalty area but the ball went just wide. It seemed the second goal was only a matter of time and it didn’t take long. Voloshyn received the ball on the right flank, passed to Ponomarenko, who set up Matviy, and he scored from close range – 2:0.
In the second half Dynamo increased their shots on goal and in the final 10 minutes Pikhalonok, Ponomarenko and Vivcharenko all had attempts. Brazhko took another free kick but slightly missed. The score remained 2:0 until the final whistle. As a result another victory for Dynamo at their winter training camp in Turkey.
Dynamo’s next friendly matches are scheduled for Saturday, February 14, when the team will play two games: in the morning against Moldovan team Zimbru and in the afternoon against Latvian team RFS.
