Tribute to Valeriy Lobanovskyi in Kyiv

January 6 was the 84th birthday of FC Dynamo Kyiv legendary player and coach Valeriy Lobanovskyi.

Lobanovskyi dedicated most of his life to football and Dynamo. At first – as a player and then – as a gaffer, who formed three golden squads that glorified Kyiv and Ukraine all over the world.

Not a single Dynamo coach has matched him in terms of trophies quantity. His ideas were far ahead of his time. The outstanding Ukrainian gaffer is considered to be one of the best specialists in football history.

Valeriy Lobanovskyi has been gone for over 20 years, but memory of him will never fade. Even now, throughout the horror of war, a lot of people came to his grave in the Baikove cemetery and his monument at the Dynamo Stadium.

Some were barely holding back tears. Not only family, but those, who knew the Maestro through football – Andriy Biba, Volodymyr Muntian, Leonid Buriak and others.

They brought flowers from the president of the club Ihor Surkis, Hryhoriy Surkis and the whole team. Although there were no official arrangements due to martial law, a lot of admirers of Lobanovskyi came to pay tribute to him too.

“We live as long as we are remembered”. These words engraved on his memorial eloquently say that Valeriy Lobanovskyi will always live in hearts of those who love and respect him.
