Dynamo Kyiv’s next Conference League opponent, Cypriot side Omonia Nicosia, played their 10th round match in the Cyprus First Division on Sunday.
In this fixture Omonia hosted APOEL Nicosia, pitting the first- and second-placed teams after 9 rounds against each other. Omonia led APOEL by two points heading into the match.
Omonia took the lead quickly when Nikolas Panayiotou scored from a second-phase set-piece in the 5th minute. Dut six minutes later APOEL equalized with a long-range strike from 25 meters by Marius Corbu.
Omonia created the majority of chances but the ball initially refused to cross the line. Two potential goals were checked by the officials and one mid-second-half goal was disallowed for a marginal offside. On 72nd minute Moroccan forward Ryan Mmae finally put Omonia ahead after sustained pressure but in 90+8th minute APOEL salvaged a draw thanks to a Dimitrios Diamantakos goal following a cross from the flank.
After 10 rounds the Cyprus First Division standings are tightly contested: Omonia remains top of the table, Aris Limassol has caught up on points with the leaders, Pafos is just one point behind moving past APOEL what is now fourth and AEK Larnaca rounds out the top five only 2 points off the leaders.
