Oleksiy Mykhailychenko’s men kept alive their hopes of a FIFA World Cup play-off place with a 1-0 home victory against ten-man England.

England keeper Robert Green was dismissed after only 13 minutes for fouling Artem Milevskyy in the penalty area. The team’s captain and former Chelsea striker Andriy Shevchenko took the spot kick and sent substitute keeper David James the wrong way, but the ball, unfortunately, struck the post. The hosts, however, managed to turn their eagerness and willingness to win into positive result, as Dnipro midfielder Serhiy Nazarenko had a decisive say. His shot struck Ashley Cole and flew past England custodian David James in the 29th minute to secure a crucial win for Ukraine.
