On Friday, March 27, Ukraine’s U21 national team played their latest match in the qualification round for the UEFA European Under-21 Championship 2027. The “yellow-blues” hosted group outsiders Lithuania in Košice, Slovakia, a team they had previously defeated 4:0 away.
However this time Ukraine failed to secure a win. After a goalless first half the home side took the lead in the 60th minute when Krevsun finished a cross from Pastukh with a first-time shot.
Despite gaining the advantage Ukraine could not hold on to the lead. In the 70th minute Steponavičius struck from distance with the ball bouncing off the post and into the net to equalize.
For the remainder of the match Ukraine dominated possession and created chances but were unable to score again. The game ended in a 1:1 draw, resulting in a disappointing loss of points for Unai Melgosa’s side.
Ukraine now has 5 points in the group, leaving their chances of qualifying for the tournament looking increasingly slim.
It is worth noting that three Dynamo Kyiv players featured in the match. Defender Oleksii Husiev, currently on loan at Kudrivka, started and played the full match. Midfielder Bohdan Redushko came on in the 72nd minute while center-back Vladyslav Zakharchenko was introduced in the 87th minute.
Ukraine U21 will play their next qualifying match on Tuesday, March 31, in Budapest against Hungary’s U21 team.
