There has been a major return at Dynamo Kyiv: Vasyl Rats, a prominent midfielder of Valeriy Lobanovskyi’s star team that won the UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup in 1986, has joined the club’s scouting department.
In an interview with the official club website, Vasyl Karlovych also spoke about his plans for the near future.
– Mr. Rats, welcome back to Dynamo! What emotions are you experiencing?
– Only positive emotions: it is a pleasure to return to my home club, of which I have always considered myself a part.
– How did the idea of joining the club in this particular role come about?
– Until recently, I worked at the Munkach academy, but the desire to return to Kyiv never left me. I met with the Dynamo management, we discussed the matter, and I received their full support.
– Did you think about this option for a long time?
– Of course not. Dynamo is my home club, I spent the best years of my career here, so I could not turn down the opportunity to return when it arose.
– What areas will you be responsible for in the scouting department?
– I will follow Hungary and also monitor footballers in Ukraine. We will define specific objectives shortly.
– What is the main goal you have set for yourself as a scout?
– First of all, I want to find new players for the team who will meet the status of Dynamo Kyiv, as well as the club’s traditions and ambitions.
– Your football experience is impossible to overestimate – you played and worked extensively in Ukraine and abroad. How much will this knowledge and experience help you at Dynamo?
– I hope that my experience and understanding of football will certainly benefit the club and contribute to its further development.
– You previously lived mostly in Zakarpattia but now you will certainly spend more time in Kyiv. How valuable is it for you to return to a city that has played such an important role in your life?
– For me, Kyiv is the best city in the world, even compared with Budapest, where I lived for more than 30 years. I feel comfortable here even despite the frequent air-raid alerts and explosions. So I am very happy to return.
– Dynamo fans always remember your performances and achievements fondly. What would you say to them now?
– Support Dynamo, stand by the team both on days of victories and during difficult times. And never lose faith that our team will play at a high level!
