On Saturday, November 22, Dynamo played their Matchday 13 fixture of the Ukrainian Championship. After the international break, connected with national team matches, the “White-Blues” travelled to Kovalivka to face local side Kolos.
The match featured two teams separated by just one point in the league table. Kolos were in 6th place with 19 points from 12 matches. Dynamo had also played 12 games, collected 20 points and occupied 4th place.
Both teams began the match cautiously and no truly dangerous chances arose in the first few minutes. Demchenko’s shot, blocked by Mykhavko, is worth noting – and the next attack by the hosts immediately paid off. Klymchuk received a pass from deep, slipped behind two Dynamo defenders and expertly converted a one-on-one with Neshcheret for 1:0.
Kolos continued to transition quickly through midfield and created more pressure near Dynamo’s goal setting a high tempo. Tsurikov attempted a long-range shot under the crossbar – Neshcheret made a spectacular save punching the ball out for a corner. Shortly after Rrapaj hit dangerously from a free kick with the ball flying just past the post.
Gradually Dynamo managed to push the game away from their own penalty area and began to put pressure on the hosts’ defence. But just when it seemed the visitors were close to equalizing Kolos struck again. Tsurikov passed to Klymchuk who controlled the ball, turned and fired from about 15 meters into the right corner – 2:0.
Before halftime both sides had chances: Dynamo tried to reduce the deficit, especially from set pieces, while hosts looked to extend their lead. Kane came close with a sharp on-target strike but Neshcheret once again rescued his side with a flying punch. The first half ended 2:0.
At the start of the second half Dynamo noticeably intensified their efforts. First, after Buyalskyi’s shot, the post saved Kolos from a certain goal. Soon after Pakholiuk again rescued his team. Pikhalonok also came close but his attempt was stopped by another excellent save from the Kolos goalkeeper.
Dynamo continued to dominate and increased the number of shots though quantity did not turn into quality. The main threats came from set pieces, especially corner deliveries, but the visitors still couldn’t convert their chances.
Finally a few minutes before the end of regulation time Brazhko switched play from the left to the right flank. Karavaiev passed to Pikhalonok who burst into the penalty area and made a low cross to Ogundana – Shola redirected the ball into the net from close range, making it 2:1. Immediately after Kabaiev headed on goal from point-blank range but Pakholiuk secured it. In the final minutes Dynamo besieged the hosts’ penalty area but unfortunately could not find the equalizer.
Thus the match ended in a disappointing 2:1 defeat for Dynamo. Their next league game will be played on Monday, December 1, when they host newly promoted SC Poltava in Matchday 14.
