Volodymyr Klymenko: «We did a good job on physical preparation during the training camp»

The functional fitness coach of Dynamo's first team spoke about the specifics of the training process.

– Experts and fans note how much Dynamo has improved physically. The team often gets stronger toward the end of matches and outperforms opponents. Could you share the secret of how you managed to bring players to this level during the training camp?

– There are no special secrets. We simply did a lot of good work on physical preparation during the training camp. That’s why we see results on the field now and the coaching staff is satisfied. We can see that players are truly able to maintain their level for the full 90 minutes. At the same time we still have room to improve so we’re not stopping and continue moving forward.

– What helped this process happen?

– Together with the coaching staff we make decisions about the workload for each training session. In general there’s nothing extraordinary – speed training, strength training. We just do all of this in high volume and with high intensity.

– What is the difference between training during the camp and now during the season?

– Of course the training process is very different. During the camp the workload was much greater in terms of volume. When the second half of the championship started we began working more on intensity – focusing more on developing coordination and speed.

– Which exercises are the most intense and the most effective for players’ progress?

– We have a weekly microcycle in which we consider everything – our matches when we have intense training sessions and when we give players rest. The coaching staff meets and makes decisions about every training session. Sometimes there are disagreements but we all work toward the same overall result.

– Are you satisfied with your work, considering the team’s physical condition?

– Of course we still need to work even better. In general not only I but the entire coaching staff is satisfied with the progress. We will keep trying to improve.

– In modern football physical conditions and intensity are extremely important. Do you use the experience of well-known European clubs?

– We rely on our own experience, opinions within the coaching staff and we apply modern and promising football training programs.
