Viacheslav Surkis: «To make debut for my hometown club, in my hometown, at my home stadium - that’s a childhood dream»

Dynamo goalkeeper Viacheslav Surkis, who made his debut in the home Ukrainian championship match against FC Epitsentr Kamianets-Podilskyi, shared his impressions after the game and the 4:0 victory.

– Congratulations on the win, on your birthday and on your debut. A lot of events happened in one day - you’ll probably remember February 27, 2026 for a long time. What emotions are you feeling?

– I’m overwhelmed with emotions. Usually in interviews I speak calmly and reservedly but right now it’s exciting - I honestly didn’t expect this. It’s very special to debut for my hometown club, in my hometown, at my home stadium, in front of our fans. It’s a childhood dream. And to do it on my birthday as well! I’m probably the happiest person in the world right now.

– What were you thinking when you found out you would go on and were warming up? How did you imagine this debut?

– I wasn’t thinking about anything anymore. I was told to play - so I was going to play. I warmed up and prepared. We wear monitors and it felt like my heart rate was through the roof (smiles). But seriously everything was fine. They told me I would come on with about ten minutes left since the score allowed it so I was ready. Before the match all goalkeepers warm up together so everything was normal.

– What condition is the team in right now?

– In good shape. Last week we beat Rukh, today we beat Epitsentr. In my opinion we played good football despite the difficult weather conditions.

– Can it be said that experience and youth complement each other well in the team?

– Absolutely. Experienced players help and give advices - huge thanks to them for that. Sometimes they can be tough on you too but that’s right and fair. Andrii Mykolaiovych (Yarmolenko) came on today and scored a fantastic goal - he’s a legend. He already has 117 goals - that’s an incredible number, just top level!

Motia (Matvii Ponomarenko) has now scored in five consecutive matches, got a brace today and overall played very well. He’s progressing and improving. We’ve been on the same team since childhood so I know him very well. He’s a great guy and a strong footballer. I’m sure he has a big future ahead of him.
