Dynamo goalkeeper Viacheslav Surkis shared his impressions of the home victory over Kolos (2:1) in the 3rd round of the UPL.
– We returned against the backdrop of the defeat to Qarabag, which prevented us from progressing further in European competitions. But I believe that everything is still ahead. Now we will focus on the championship and the Ukrainian Cup. Our goal and objective is to win both, and we will do everything for that.
– You have guarded Dynamo's goal in both matches at the start of the championship. What drives you forward, what gives you confidence?
– Confidence comes from the fact that I am starting at the age of 20. If someone had told me six months ago that I would be playing for the first team... Of course, I dreamed about it, but I did not expect it so soon. Unfortunately, it happened under such circumstances that Ruslan got injured. We wish him a speedy recovery. Today, I believe I should have saved the ball in the episode with the conceded goal. But the team covered for me, scored a second goal and won, thank God. I am grateful to my teammates for supporting me after the mistake and at halftime, and everything ended well.
– So, there was a conversation at halftime? Did they calm you down for the second half, in which you made a save?
– Well, there wasn't really a conversation, but the guys supported me, saying, “It's nothing serious, get ready for the second half, everything is fine, it happens to everyone”. Such moments are, of course, difficult for a goalkeeper, but I have been through worse than this, so everything will be fine.
– When you concede but the team wins, does that calm the goalkeeper down?
– Of course, it is better not to concede, but even if you do, the main thing is that the team wins. So everything is fine.
– The Dynamo academy has always been famous for its goalkeepers. Is there a secret to winning the competition and constantly keeping yourself in shape?
– Hard work and an opportunity – that's basically it. You have to wait for your chance and use it. However, this applies not only to goalkeepers...
