On Wednesday, October 22, Dynamo Kyiv U19 took an important step toward progressing in the UEFA Youth League Champions Path defeating Swedish champions Brommapojkarna 1:0 in the first leg of the second round.
From the opening minutes Dynamo looked confident and assertive creating several dangerous attacks and set-piece chances. Andreiko, Redushko and Hrodzinskyi were particularly active in the final third though the visitors’ defence and goalkeeper Isaksson held firm. Dynamo dominated possession and territory not allowing the Swedes a single shot on target for most of the first half.
However, the match turned complicated for the Ukrainians after 30 minutes when Bohdan Redushko received a straight red card for a foul leaving the hosts a man down for the remainder of the game.
Despite the setback Dynamo continued to press forward. Osypenko forced the Brommapojkarna keeper into a difficult save and deep into stoppage time of the first half, the breakthrough finally came. After earning a free-kick on the left flank Liusin delivered a precise cross into the box where Vladyslav Zakharchenko rose above the defence to head the ball into the net – 1:0 just before halftime.
In the second half Ivan Andreiko came close to doubling the lead on two occasions, narrowly missing the target from close range. Dynamo remained compact and disciplined relying on counterattacks while limiting the visitors’ opportunities.
Goalkeeper Vyacheslav Surkis showed excellent composure, making two crucial saves – including one in stoppage time to deny Krasniqi from point-blank range. The defence led by Ohorodnik and Zakharchenko stayed organised and resilient until the final whistle.
Ultimately Dynamo U19 secured a well-deserved 1:0 victory – earned through determination, teamwork and tactical discipline despite playing with ten men for over an hour.
The return leg of the tie will take place in Stockholm on Wednesday, November 5, where Dynamo will look to defend their narrow advantage and advance to the next round of the UEFA Youth League Champions Path.
