Ukraine played their second match in the 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign. After losing to France Serhiy Rebrov’s men faced Azerbaijan away in Baku.
Unfortunately Ukraine were unable to secure a win against the group’s outsider. In the first half they had possession but struggled to create real chances. At one point the referee initially awarded a penalty for a foul on Vladyslav Vanat in the box but then overturned the decision. Despite numerous attacks and attempts Ukraine lacked a decisive finishing touch before the break.
After halftime Ukraine struck early through Sudakov but failed to build on the lead. In the 70th minute the hosts equalized from the penalty spot after Oleksandr Zinchenko handled the ball in his own area.
The Blue-and-Yellows pressed forward aggressively but without much efficiency. Substitute Nazar Voloshyn added energy and creativity, threatening with long-range shots and dangerous passes into the box, yet Azerbaijan held firm and earned a valuable draw.
Another Dynamo Kyiv player, Mykola Shaparenko, also came on as a substitute in the 75th minute.
