Before the October Revolution at this place there was an entertainment center for rich Kyivans called Chateau de Fleur with café music-hall, cabaret etc.
The majority of these constructions didn’t come through the civil war. Dynamo complex also included up-to-date restaurant, movie site, music-hall and fountains. And with no doubt the main construction was the pitch with a grandstand for 18-20 thousand spectators.
On June 12 1933 Dynamo Stadium grand opening took place. Festivities included football match between teams from Kyiv and Kharkiv. Kyivans defeated their opponents 2:1. The first goal at the legendary stadium was scored by Mykola Borysovych Makhynia.
In 1936 at the corner of Kirova st. (today – Hrushevskoho st.) and Petrovska alley spectacular colonnade was erected.
On May 24 Dynamo Kyiv played their first Soviet Top League game against Dynamo Moscow. About 40,000 spectators attended that match.
Mykola Makhynia scored the first goal again.
On May 13 1945 Kyivans played their first postwar match against FC Lokomotiv Moscow (1:1) at Dynamo stadium.
1978-1979 the stadium was reconstructed. New lighting equipment was installed.
Later the stadium became the property of FC Dynamo Kyiv. Ten years ago it was named after the great player and coach Valeriy Lobanovskyi who had passed away. In 2003 Lobanovskyi monument was installed at the territory of the stadium.
At the moment this stadium is a home arena of Dynamo reserve team and Dynamo-2.
On June 16 at 19.00 Dynamo-2 will play second relegation play-off against FC Shakhtar Sverdlovsk for the right to represent our club in Ukrainian First League next season. Come to Dynamo Stadium and watch this interesting game!
