Bucharest sports school #2 trainee. He started his career in 1963 in FC Dinamo Bucharest and featured for the club till 1977 (with a break). Lucescu also performed for FC Sportul Studentesc (1965-1967 loan love) and FC Corvinul Hunedoara (1977-1982). He played his last game for Dinamo Bucharest on May 16 1990.

As a played he won the Romanian league six times (1964, 1965, 1971, 1973, 1975, 1977) and the national cup twice (1964, 1968).

Upon finishing the career of player Mircea Lucescu started coaching. He used to be in charge of Romania national team (1981-1986), Dinamo Bucharest (1985-1990), AC Pisa 1909 (1990-1991), Brescia (1991-1995), Reggiana (1996), Rapid Bucharest (1997-1998, 1999-2000), Inter Milan (1998-1999), Galatasaray (2000-2002), Besiktas (2002-2004), FC Shakhtar Donetsk (2004-2016), FC Zenit St. Petersburg (2016-2017).

Lucescu’s last place of work was Turkey national team (2017-2019).

As a coach he’s won 32 trophies.
