Today we tell about Dynamo Kyiv's achievements over the years in European club tournaments.
The Kyiv side has participated in all European competitions throughout their history — the European Cup / Champions League, UEFA Cup / Europa League, Cup Winners’ Cup and the UEFA Super Cup.
Achievements by competition
Best result: Semi-finals (1976/1977, 1986/1987)
Best result: Semi-finals (1998/1999)
Dynamo reached the brink of the final three times in Europe’s most prestigious competition:
In 1977 they defeated Borussia Mönchengladbach 1:0 at home but lost 0:2 away.
In 1987 Porto won both matches 2:1 although Dynamo arguably deserved better results.
In 1999 one of the strongest Dynamo teams dominated Bayern Munich at home but drew 3:3. In the away match a wonder goal by Mario Basler decided the tie despite Dynamo missing several great chances.
Best result: Semi-finals (2008/2009)
Best results: Quarter-finals (2010/2011, 2014/2015)
In the 2008/2009 season Dynamo had a strong campaign but lost in the semi-finals to Shakhtar Donetsk over two legs, stopping just short of the final.
After the tournament was rebranded as the Europa League Dynamo reached quarter-finals twice: lost to Braga on away goals and eliminated by Fiorentina in 2015
During the Soviet era Dynamo struggled in the UEFA Cup and never advanced beyond the Round of 16.

Best results: Winners (1974/1975, 1985/1986)
Two legendary teams led by Valeriy Lobanovskyi are the pride of the club’s history. Dynamo played like a true football machine, sweeping aside opponents. On their way to these trophies they defeated teams from Bulgaria, West Germany, Turkey, Netherlands (twice), Hungary, Romania, Austria, Czechoslovakia and Spain.
These triumphs were reinforced by two Ballon d’Or winners: Oleg Blokhin (1975) and Igor Belanov (1986)

Best result: Winners (1975)
Dynamo played in the UEFA Super Cup twice: defeated Bayern Munich — one of Europe’s top teams — in a historic triumph (1:0 away and 2:0 at home) and lost to Steaua Bucharest in 1986 (0:1 at neutral venue).
Matches against Bayern are written in golden letters in Dynamo’s history. Valeriy Lobanovskyi’s tactical genius, Oleg Blokhin’s scoring instinct and the team’s discipline led to one of the most famous victories in European football at the time.
