Dynamo Kyiv winger Andriy Yarmolenko spoke live on UPL TV after his team’s convincing 4:0 victory over Kryvbas in which the experienced player scored another goal in the Ukrainian Premier League.
- Tell us, did anything change today that caused this breakthrough for the team?
- Honestly, nothing really changed. I think we ourselves were just tired of getting such results. We understand where we play and what club we represent. Today we went out there as if it were a final, fully aware that only confident victory would be acceptable.
- After this result did you feel a bit of relief?
- Of course it feels a bit easier now because we hadn’t won for a while. We know how important the upcoming matches are so we’ll prepare properly – we need to keep improving the situation.
- Were you comfortable playing as a central striker today?
- With age I’ve learned to feel comfortable playing in any attacking position – on the left, on the right, behind the forwards or as a striker. So no problems at all.
- Do you know which goal number this was for you?
- Honestly, no idea.
- It was your 115th. Congratulations!
- Thank you! (smiles)
- This is your first goal at 36 years old. How does it feel to score at such a “mature” football age?
- Feels the same as it did when I was 19 (laughs).
– How important was today’s win ahead of the upcoming matches against Shakhtar in both the Ukrainian Cup and Premier League?
- Of course it was an important win. As I said we hadn’t won for a long time, there’s been a lot of criticism and some of our younger players are experiencing that pressure for the first time. Naturally it’s tough for them. So we talk a lot, try to lift each other’s spirits.
I think everyone understands how crucial the next two matches are. It’s the national derby so we’ll prepare seriously – and I hope we’ll make our fans happy.
