FC Dynamo (Kyiv) expresses full support for Olympian Vladyslav Heraskevych

FC Dynamo Kyiv expresses its full support for our Olympian Vladyslav Heraskevych.

Today the International Olympic Committee disqualified Vladyslav Heraskevych ahead of his first run at the 2026 Olympic Games in skeleton. The reason was the Ukrainian athlete’s refusal to remove the “Helmet of Remembrance” which features images of Ukrainian athletes killed by russian forces.

We are proud of Vladyslav’s stance and believe his actions are right and just. At a time when the enemy continues to kill Ukrainians and destroy our country Heraskevych was deprived of the right to honor fallen Ukrainian athletes.

Dynamo stands with you, Vlad!

Dynamo president Ihor Surkis, head coach Ihor Kostiuk and team captain Vitalii Buialskii also addressed Vladyslav Heraskevych personally.

“We fully support your position, dear Vladyslav! Ukraine needs international support and protection. We all understand, Vlad, that you prepared for the Olympics for years but will not be able to start due to your principled stance. Thanks to you, the world continues to speak about the ruthless war that russians are waging on our land. You have paid for this with your sporting dream but for us, Ukrainians, you have become a true champion and winner. Thank you!” said Ihor Surkis.

“It is painful to see Ukrainians being deprived of their right to a voice. But thanks to athletes like you, Vladyslav, our country raises these crucial issues at the international level. You sacrificed the main event of the four-year cycle to honor the memory of murdered Ukrainian athletes. This is more than just a stance - it is a sporting act of courage. Our entire coaching staff is proud of your action; it is very important for Ukraine,” said Ihor Kostiuk in his message to Heraskevych.

“My friend! Your action, your position and your principles are inspiring. As an athlete I understand what such injustice means. You had every right to honor the memory of our compatriots killed by russia. You were deprived of the right to compete but for millions of Ukrainians you have become a true hero and an example. On behalf of the entire Dynamo team, thank you - we fully support you,” added Vitalii Buialskii.
