FC Dynamo Kyiv president Ihor Surkis has summarized the UPL matchday 10 game against FC Shakhtar Donetsk (0:0).
- Is this draw a positive or negative outcome for you?
- We’re on the top of the league table, so of course Shakhtar wanted to win. This was one of key games of the season. We returned to Kyiv on Thursday, so, considering such tough schedule, I think it’s a good result.
- Did you want to gain revenge for defeat in the Super Cup?
- UPL and Super Cup are different competitions. We should forget the Super Cup and the match against Bayern.
We’ve played a decent game. We could both win and lost. That’s what makes football so interesting. Our players haven’t totally reconditioned yet, but they’ve demonstrated their character.
- Dynamo share the NSC Olimpiyskyi with Shakhtar, but the stadium was supporting Kyiv side today.
- That’s natural as we played in our city. If we played in Donetsk, the stadium would have been supporting Shakhtar. Anyway, there’s only one team in Kyiv.
- What did you tell players after the game?
- I thanked them for dedication. As you know, Mykolenko, Shepelev and Verbic have health issues, so they couldn’t take the field. Fatigue causes some problems. Now some players will join national teams while the rest will be getting ready for match in Lviv and two games against Barcelona.
- Dynamo players make a major part of the national team lineup. Do you agree Dynamo academy is the leading one in Ukraine?
- You can see how many Dynamo players have been called up to Ukraine national team and youth teams. You can see Dynamo U19 beat Benfica and Bayern 4:0. I think we have promising youngsters, who should keep this up and aim for the first team.
