Only two foreigners were in the White-Blues starting lineup – Kedziora and Verbic. It was quite surprising that Karavayev took the position of right winger.
Both sides started the game quite aggressively. Sometimes emotions were over the top, but generally opponents acted with respect to each other. Dynamo applied the pressure rather effectively and then Sydorchuk opened the score with a fabulous strike from distance – 1:0.
After that the home side focused on counterattacks while Shakhtar took the ball under control. Still the White-Blues had chances to doubles the score both before and after the break.
Late in the second half referee sent Shepelev off for the allegedly rough foul against Taison and in a stoppage time Stepanenko managed to equalize from outside the box.
Anyway, in the first extra time Stepanenko got the second yellow card and was sent off too. And 109 minutes into the match Dynamo got in front again: de Pena put a cross from the corner flag and Popov headed the ball in – 2:1.
So, Dynamo defeat Shakhtar and go through to the quarterfinal.
