Matvii Ponomarenko: fourth Dynamo player to score on Ukraine debut

Dynamo Kyiv forward Matvii Ponomarenko made his debut for the Ukraine national team in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers (play-off semi-final) against Sweden (1:3).

The 20-year-old striker came on as a substitute in the 77th minute and marked his debut with a goal in the 90th minute.

He became the fourth Dynamo Kyiv player to score in his debut match for Ukraine’s senior national team.

1. Andriy Yarmolenko made his debut for the Ukraine national team on September 5, 2009, in a home 2010 FIFA World Cup qualifying match against Andorra (5:0) and scoring in the 18th minute. Overall Yarmolenko has 125 caps and 46 goals for the national team.

2. Roman Zozulya debuted for Ukraine on June 2, 2010, in an away friendly match against Norway (0:1), scoring the only and winning goal in the 79th minute. In total Zozulya made 33 appearances for Ukraine and scored 4 goals.

3. Serhii Sydorchuk made his national team debut on October 9, 2014, coming on as a substitute in an away UEFA EURO 2016 qualifying match against Belarus (2:0) and scored in stoppage time. Overall Sydorchuk has 62 caps and 3 goals for Ukraine.
