Mircea Lucescu did not resign in February 2022, did not hide from difficulties and after the start of the war endured nearly a year and a half of a demanding schedule of travel and matches across Europe and Ukraine. He returned to Kyiv where he lived under shelling and air raid sirens.

In every interview and comment to foreign media he always emphasized that the truth is on Ukraine’s side, that our people deserve a just peace and support from civilized countries in the fight for freedom and independence.
A little lonely
