On Friday, April 10, Dynamo Kyiv’s U19 team played their Matchday 23 fixture in the Ukrainian U19 League. Pavlo Cherednichenko’s side traveled to Boryspil to face Metalist 1925’s youth team.
Before kickoff a tribute was held in memory of former Dynamo head coach Mircea Lucescu who passed away on April 7. Players and referees wore T-shirts featuring the Romanian coach’s portrait and a minute of silence was observed.
The game was played in rainy conditions and the poor quality of the pitch made it difficult for Dynamo to display their usual combination play.
Despite this the Kyiv side remained solid defensively, allowing almost nothing near their own goal while gradually finding ways to threaten the opposition.
In the first half Dynamo created a couple of chances: Lobko broke into the penalty area from the right but saw his shot saved at the near post and Savane’s effort went off target.
Dynamo eventually took the lead just before halftime. Bekerskyi carried the ball into the box and was fouled. From around 22 meters out Lobko fired a free kick that went through the wall and past the goalkeeper – 0:1.
