Press conference of FC Dynamo Kyiv head coach Mircea Lucescu after the game against FC Vorskla Poltava.
We’ve lost for the first time in a year. This had to happen one day. Unfortunately it happened in bad time.
What influenced the game is disappointment we had after the match against Barcelona. Besides we had little time to get ready for the game against Vorskla. I didn’t manage to switch players to the domestic league.
We started pretty well and had chances, but our slackness didn’t let us use those. The first mistake we made resulted in free kick followed by conceded goal.
Thus things got really complicated as Vorskla are experienced team. They defended orderly and had decent counterattacks. They were killing the clock as their doctors were taking the field.
Our players were in a hurry and were making wrong decisions. Vorskla keeper did a good job. Anyway, the number of opportunities we didn’t use means something was wrong.
I need to watch the game again, especially certain referees’ decisions. In Europe, the refereeing is totally different. When we opposed Barcelona, they didn’t even award fouls in such situations while this time they awarded penalty.
I’m not saying Vorskla didn’t deserve to win, but there were episodes that influenced the final score.
- You made only two substitutions. Is that about the lack of enforcement?
- Our players were making wrong decisions. When opponent defends so densely, you need proper mutual understanding between your performers. It was really hard for Vitinho and Ramirez to get into the game.
Tsyhankov and Buialskyi understand each other very well. As for other players, I wasn’t sure they would enforce us.
Visitors were doing everything they could to kill the clock. Maybe I made a mistake when picking the starting lineup. I don’t deny it. But it doesn’t mean players weren’t making mistakes either.
Every pause lasted a couple of minutes which was throwing us off stride. There was little football on the field. Thus our players were fussy.
